Sunya Whitelight: Entelechy: Dream, Direction, Destiny
My Del Rio Trail project consisted of two parts, community engagement sessions, and tangible artwork I created from those sessions.
During our community engagement sessions, I offered “Mindful Art Walks”.
These experiences consisted of gathering at Charlie Jensen Park, where we softened into the sensory environment, observing shapes, color, light, textures, sounds, and scents. Participants explored the site of the future trail, used their wisdom to select natural items for their ephemeral artwork, and relaxed into the process of creating symmetry and balance in their radial designs.
Meditating on the essence of these sessions, a theme emerged. Entelechy…a philosophy borrowed from the ancient Greeks, which describes the journey between potential and actual.
Employing our botanical subjects as metaphors, I created symbolic artwork in wood and metal.
DREAM
The journey begins with a symbol of spring on the breath of the dreamer.
A dandelion puff contains all the childlike wonder and wishes held in its seed-clock.
The moment has arrived to launch its parachutes of potentiality.
DIRECTION
Poppies open with radiant joy
as a compass,
guiding our direction.
DESTINY
A tiny acorn reaches its potential as the mighty oak.
A wonder wheel of patience and resilience,
An inner force driving toward its destination.
