Rosalva Willow: Women's Cyanotype Workshop

On Sunday, I was joined by women from the Sacramento community for an afternoon cyanotype workshop. I was so pleased to have women from so many of the neighborhoods that border the Del Rio Trail - including women from the Meadowview, Land Park, South Land Park, & Downtown neighborhoods! They brought their own clippings of plants and flowers from their gardens to use in the print-making process. One participant who uses the Del Rio Trail for morning walks, brought oak leaves and small plant clippings respectively collected from the trail itself. Most of my guests had never made a cyanotype before. I was amazed but not surprised at how creative, supportive and collaborative everyone was from start to finish. We spent an afternoon laughing, creating and enjoying each other's company and the prints we made together were BEAUTIFUL!. At the end of the workshop, participants were invited to donate one of their prints to my Del Rio Trail Project artwork. I'll be collaging the work created by these and other community members into my final piece as a way of honoring the creative and organic process of community building.

Thank you to all the wonderful women who came out to collaborate with me and thank you to Romo Studios for providing us with such a beautiful venue!
