Rosalva Willow: Children's Cyanotype Workshop

Over the course of months, I've been involving the community in making cyanotypes that I'll collage together in my final work of art for the Del Rio Trail Project. To this end, community outreach continued today with what I hope is the first of several workshops at Alice Birney Elementary School. The overcast day caught us by surprise but with some adjustments, we were able to get good, dark blue prints. The children were natural artists - they collaborated, experimented and arranged beautiful compositions. I loved hearing their excited reactions as the prints were revealed in the rinsing process. When asked what they like most about the process one student said, "I loved when we first took the plants off the paper and the plant shape left on the paper was a bright teal blue. Then when we rinsed it, the teal turned purple and then white!" Another child said, "It's magical!"
